OData Curriculum for SAP Partners

SAP's goal is to enable our partners and customers to build a large number of applications for different devices and on various platforms; applications that are based on lightweight consumption of SAP and non-SAP business application data in a standard-based fashion and applications that cover very specific needs of industry segments or customer’s business processes.
In this curriculum you will learn the fundamental concepts of this emerging open Web standard and how OData (aka Open Data Protocol), provides unique access to heterogeneous SAP applications, independent of their architecture, release and platform to any client and any device in a simple and fast way. We enable you to create and consume OData services in the SAP environment!

This learning offering includes a theoretical and a practical part of the course.

Introduction: This module provides an introduction to the standard OData, and offers a common understanding of this new industry, open standard. You will receive insight on how to model OData interfaces and on the difference between modeling an OData interface and modeling the back-end interfaces you have built so far. Last but not least, you receive an introduction to how this standard is used within SAP.

Provisioning: This module provides information and guidance on how to build and manage OData interfaces at SAP, e.g. how to build OData interfaces in the SAP Business Suite, how to activate and test the interfaces via SAP NetWeaver Gateway and how to expose SAP NetWeaver Business Warehouse (BW) queries as OData services. This part enables you to build back-end OData interfaces.

Consumption: The consumption module shows how to build applications based on OData interfaces and how to consume OData interfaces in HTML5 apps.

Theoretical Part

Please note: The content available here refers to SAP NetWeaver 7.4 SP02. An update to version SP08 is coming soon!

For the theoretical part, there are e-books and related web-assessments provided to enhance your knowledge on the topic. To cover the different needs of our partners the training is divided into three modules:

Module 1: Introduction - Related Discussion Forum (SCN)

Module 2: Provisioning - Related Discussion Forum (SCN)

Module 3: Consumption - Related Discussion Forum (SCN)

The self-paced learning content will be supplemented and updated, if necessary.

Practical Part

The practical part consists of exercises and the official exercise solutions. If you need the development environment to complete your exercises, please register for the next training session here. Training sessions will take place on a quarter for two weeks as follows:

Starting Q3 2014. Detailed information will follow soon!

In the next training session you can complete your exercises by using the training development landscape that has been created for this purpose. During this time you can discuss or ask a question in our forum, a private external SAP Jam group (aka Learning Room) that will be supported by experienced SAP experts. To get more information about the access to the SAP Jam group please click here (will be provided soon).

Module 2: Provisioning

 Module 3: Consumption

Training System: Please note that the training system is closed at the moment.

 Target group and prerequisites

This course is designed for enabling SAP partners to adopt OData, either in the role of a developer of back-end interfaces or in the role of an application developer where the application is consuming OData interfaces; e.g. SAP UI5 (HTML5) apps.

To access the Learning Room (private external SAP Jam group), you will need an unique portal/S- user ID and password with a valid e-mail address and access to that mailbox. Please ensure that you use this unique S-user for registration to the training sessions of OData Curriculum. If you do not have one, request one in advance from your company's assigned SAP Security Manager/Super Administrator. If you don’t know who your company’s Security Manager is, fill out the following form and the SAP Team will get you started.
